O
ur Strings Department
In the TDS, we teach strings using the Suzuki method. This method is based on the philosophy that all chidren have the potential to become musical. The curriculum utilizes musical pieces that are played by Suzuki students around the world, on violin, viola, and cello. Development of the musical ear is emphasized from an early age. Group activities supplement private lessons. Music reading is also taught from an early age.
In the strings lessons, the parent is encouraged to be present and to take notes. In the group sessions, adults are invited to join in the music playing. At home, the parent is expected to supervise the music practice. We have found that, in general, those students who excel are the ones whose parents dedicate time and interest in the child's musical development.
